Steering Group Training

[ prerequisites for success]

The governance of projects is crucial for ensuring that the right projects are initiated along with that the projects and its project managers are provided with the right prerequisites to succeed. The steering group is the strongest, and often the only, link between an organization’s strategy and the work done within projects and/or programs, making it one of the organization’s most important functions. This, in turn, makes the work of the steering group team crucial for retaining the long-term benefits of the projects.

Prerequisites for success

For a successful project it’s crucial that its provided with the right prerequisites to succeed. This in turn, make it of the highest importance to determine that the people managing the projects possess the right competence to prosper in delivering lasting project success. It can also be of importance to review the internal ways of working along with the roles within the steering group – e.g. how do we most effectively execute our work together? Based on best practice, what works the best in our organization? Does our group include the right abilities and competence? Do we keep an eye on the right perspectives to guarantee project success? And if not, how do we ensure there is change?

Effective management teams

As part of our course Effective steering groups, potential steering group members are provided with the right knowledge and tools in order to effectively execute their responsibilities individually and together as a group. The course is grounded in global best practice (ISO 21500, PRINCE2, PMBOK) that is then applied to practical approaches, which in turn are tailored to the organization in question. Great emphasis is also put on enhancing effective behaviours and responsibilities, which often are the difference between good intentions and lasting project success.

The training is created with steering groups in mind and includes:

Roles and responsibilities within the steering group and project organization
The context of the steering group and its responsibility for strategy
Responsibility and effective behaviour
How decisions are made and by whom
Focus on effects and how to retain them
The work of a steering group in practice – piecing together all components to a whole
