Project Management in Practice

[ hands-on knowledge within project management ]

You, along with most of your peers, will at some point in life have to familiarize yourself with some type of project work or project methodology. It could be at school, in an union and/or, as most often the case, at work. In fact, up to 40% of all the work that is accomplished in organizations, in companies as well as in the public sector, are handled in project form. This in turn has the effect that we’re all used to talking about projects or mentioning that we work in project form. However, very few of us can actually tell how working in project form is different from any other ways of working. But why do we, indeed, work in project form, and above all, how does one work effectively within a project? The answers to these questions are not as obvious for people as they might seem.

Practically oriented course

At Arkatay, we host a course that focuses on answering these types of questions as well as providing you with hands-on knowledge within project management. The course Project Management in Practice is suited for project members and project managers that want to enhance their general skills within project management. Nevertheless, it is always useful for people working within project management to revisit and refill one’s toolkit with additional equipment and templates. The tools presented are a combination of our own working experience as well as well-known project management standards and frameworks – known as best practice (hence the name of the course).

The course can be adjusted to suit beginners within the field as well as those that are situated higher up in the organization hierarchy interested in acquiring a better understanding of and insight into project management. Our aim is to, through a good dose of working experience accompanied with theoretical expertise, become the bridge between the course participants and the theory, showcasing how it best can be translated into practice.

The course is scenario-based, meaning that we consistently work with case studies where the different techniques presented throughout the course are applied. We present the participants with the opportunity of vocalising challenges from their respective organizations, so that they can exchange experience with each other as well as, together with us, apply the knowledge of the course. All of our lecturers have worked as project managers and are able to provide a variety of perspectives and insights into how the theory can be applied to real-life working situations.
