Leadership in Projects

[ our course Leadership in Projects ]

To lead projects and take on the role as project manager could be compared with being the CEO of a temporary organization. Despite the fact that a project manager does not have the same formal mandate as a CEO, one is often still expected to take on similar responsibilities within the scope of a project, such as being responsible for several different departments and the impact of the project results in the whole organization. Like a lateral form of leadership, without any hierarchical power.

The leadership of a project manager holds high importance when it comes actualising strategy within the organization and the effects of it, as well as the functioning of the project organization (e.g. through ”lessons learned”). Based on our experience, certain competence is required to navigate in a complex organization with a variety of communication styles, hierarchies, and manifestation of the organizational culture.

An essential part of leadership in projects is about the ability to motivate employees to wanting to be a part of, and furthermore wanting to perform in, your project. This in turn is something that can be achieved through the work of good leadership and communication skills.

Our course Leadership in Projects covers following dimensions of leadership:

– Get to know yourself – your strengths, triggers etc.

– In your own context, explore how you and your leadership influence/effect others in the organization – communication through interaction with others

– The strategic perspective – how can your leadership in a project contribute to a better project management in the future, that also in the long run can contribute to a better project organization
