Managers and Leaders (interim)

[ support in change management ]

Many of our clients are constantly evolving their businesses. Changes, reorganizations or termination of contracts can cause gaps in both the resource planning as well as allocation, which result in the need of interim managers and leaders.

Resource allocation of interim roles

As above mentioned, companies tend to frequently look for an interim manager or leader during ongoing changes in the organization, and/or when there’s a sudden gap in the resource allocation. In some instances the aim is to directly hire a person to permanently fill the position. However, the most common scenario is to contract someone that can temporarily step into the role while the organization is implementing changes and looking for a more permanent solution. For instance, it could be the case that a company doesn’t want to onboard a manager during large scale changes, geographical moves, and/or reorganizations. As such it can be easier to have a temporary captain that can steer the ship out of the storm and let the new captain take the wheel when the waves are no longer raging.

At Arkatay we have the experience to take on interim roles both as a leader and a manager. We are experienced in working together with the part of the organization that manages change – cooperating on be everything from changing the ways of working to governing management teams and supporting them in managing the organization’s leaders and managers. Understanding and having the ability to work operatively and on all levels in a customer’s organization is our bread and butter.

When we take on interim roles we often approach them the same way we approach a project – through set goals, good stakeholder management as well as risk mitigation – which contributes to that the organization in question always has clarity in how we work and how close we are to achieve their ambitions.

Experience of both line – and project management

The majority of our senior consultants possess the crisp combination of having experience working as line managers as well as working in project- and program form. This, in turn, contributes to their ability to combine an understanding of the change and initiative as well as the line behind them, which contributes to a good capability in supporting different parts of the organization as needed. Furthermore, it provides them with the ability to shoulder interim roles like CIO, portfolio owner, project office manager or the role of a manager in a project line operation.

Our experience as interim managers stretch over several different business sectors – for example, but not limited to, the manufacture-, the energy-, the grocery-, the pharma-, the IT- and the transportation sector.

Sensitivity and participation

When taking on an interim role as a manager or leader it is important to have a good understanding of the business, while simultaneously keeping an objective perspective on the matter in relation to best practice.

But most importantly, one needs to make sure to not just talk the talk without being ready to actually walk the talk. At Arkatay, participation and longterm perspective are key when it comes to our own company culture as well as something we deeply care about amongst all our customers, old as well as new.

Operational work within project- and change management

Apart from supporting project managers or management teams through interim roles, we also have the experience of contributing in the work of establishing new functions within an organization relating to project- and change management. For instance, we are experienced in assisting organizations in setting up a project management office (PMO) within the organization, assisting with abilities in leadership as well as with experience in establishing new ways of working and processes related to best practice within project office work.

Furthermore, we’ve also had the pleasure of assisting some large companies, in different business sectors, in establishing their PMO also assisting them through the entire process.
